Windows Installation Notes
I am about to start the process of installing Microsoft Windows XP on a family members computer. This will be an upgrade from Windows Me, perhaps the worst OS ever.
Because the machine is on the old side (PIII 800, 128MB RAM), I need to create as optimized a version as I possibly can. If you find yourself in a similar situation or just want the most out of your computer, these links will be incredible helpful.
- Black Viper’s Windows XP Service Configurations
- Black Viper’s Windows XP Super Tweaks
- Microsoft PowerToys for XP
- LitePC’s XPLite. I’ve used 98lite before and have had nothing but success. I won’t be using this version only because it isn’t my computer and any problems will cause the primary user difficulties.
Black Viper’s website seems to come and go. Not sure on the reason, but if you are having difficulties accessing the site, try these.
- Windows XP Super Tweaks
- Windows XP Services Configuration
- MajorGeeks has also posted the services configuration table in case Google’s cache is not working for you. Caution, this may be an older version.
