Web Design Philosophy

  • Use valid XHTML and CSS
  • Separate content from design/style
  • Keep dial-up users in mind when designing a site. The content should take no longer than 10 seconds to download. Any longer and the user is likely to go somewhere else.
  • Make all pages fully accessible.
  • No Flash! It causes more problems than it is worth. Not accessible, bad for seo, and only works if the user has Flash installed.
  • Limit the number and size of images
  • Limit the use of JavaScript. As JavaScript is not enabled on all browsers, make the site function without it.
  • Forward compatible design
